LaStrada Bremen-Programm 2013 (engl.)

Artists Programme 2013

1
Theater Anu in Cooperation with Theater
Magica (Germany)
A labyrinth of lights for Bremen

Theater Anu lays the stars at your feet. Enter a maze made from
3500 candles and be part of a touching enactment. A subtle and
silent spectacle telling of the journey of life and inviting its visitors
to follow this journey. Dance across the stars and let yourself be
taken on the Great Journey of dreams, happiness, hope and the
meaning of life... The Labyrinth of Lights is an on-going perform-
ance and can be entered at any time of its presentation.

2
Bella and Schroeder (Germany/South
Africa/Ireland)
A surprising blend!

Traditional Irish, Jazz Standards, Folk, Roots Music, Originals, Classic
Pop, Urban Blues, Zulu... these are the genre categories out of which
the two charm their musical pieces – yet:
Their uncommon instrumentation consisting only of vocals and per-
cussion creates their own distinctive mixture. The music Bella and
Schroeder
present is experimental without being avant-garde, beauti-
ful but not cloying.

3
Blaas of Glory (Netherlands)
Heavy metal, newly interpreted

This troop turns the head-banging scene upside down! A mixture of
a hilariously funny brass band and a wildly exuberant marching band,
they reinterpret famous and unknown heavy metal songs on clarinet,
flute, chime and washboard. These guys are more than hilarious, they
also know their stuff and will breathe new life into Bremen.

4
Cie Arrangement Provisoire - Jordi Galí
(France)/German Premiere
A vertical challenge

Jordi Galí’s solo performance involves both horizontal and vertical
dimensions. The scene of the event and stage for the dancer is an
installation of tree logs and about 200m of rope. There is a constant
challenge of maintaining the balance between simplicity and com-
plexity, between naturalness and veracity. You will hold your breath.

5
Companie DaaD (Netherlands)
A roadshow full of dark humour...

La Cuisine Macabre leads us back to the time of highwaymen, travell-
ing salesmen and grotesque attractions...
A mysterious black carriage strays through the city streets until there
finally is a place to linger. More and more onlookers dare to approach.
The chimney is smoking, there is an inviting smell. An order is being
placed. There is clatter from the kitchen and a dish is quickly being
passed – but he who looks behind the scenes on the back of the carri-
age will soon be put off the food...

6
Cie Rouge Eléa (France)/German Premiere
Everything rotates...

Not on top, not below. No – they virtually go round in circles. Physic-
ally and emotionally, sometimes happily, sometimes painfully. They
elude one another, they grow with each other, and they give every-
thing a try. The performance of the Compagnie Rouge Eléa depicts
this deep and unique connection between siblings in a gentle and yet
humorous way. A special intermixture of dance and acrobatics put on
stage halfway between the air and the floor, and basically everything
rotates...

7
Dans La Poche (UK)/German Premiere
A tea ceremony with a difference

Step inside the „Identi-Tea“ room and refresh yourself with a cup
of freshly brewed tea. Atmospherically transferred to a Shanghai
tea-house, make yourself comfortable and be inspired by stories all
around the topic of Identity. How does change affect a person’s self-
esteem? Can one’s identity be changed? This unique ceremony re-
freshes all your senses! Limited access!

8
Dans La Poche (UK)/German Premiere
Sneaking a peek at the future

For hundreds of years men have been consulting the oracle. It is
about the future, the past, the quest for the right path in life...
Open Oracle invites you to visit an installation that appeals to all
senses. And it seems as if nothing was left to chance. Limited
access!

9
DJ Badre (Germany/Morocco)
There is room for dancing!

For the first time with „The House of the Swing Gypsy Burlesque“,
LA STRADA is featuring a DJ who will bring the marketplace to the
boil. DJ Badre takes the sounds of the 20s and 30s, gives them a
good shake, turns the whole thing upside down, mixes driving beats
into it and shifts this mixture to the 21st century. The outcome is
energetic club music, Electro-Gypsy-Circus at its best. Dancing per-
mitted... no, it’s a must-do.

10
E1nz (Switzerland)/German Premiere
This can’t be pigeonholed!

A lot of circus and breath-taking theatre. This niche project has
to offer something of everything and thus cannot precisely be as-
signed a single genre. It falls between the cracks, into the very
niche. It’s a niche project. A well-rounded circus theatre piece is
emerging, packed with surprising instants, poetical imagery and
funny situations. Without words yet full of musical and circus de-
lights, „Nischenprojekt“ is a treat for both the young and the old.

11
Fabien Gruau & Antoine Bocquet
(France)/German Premiere
A moving walk

Fabien Gruau’s scenic installation moves beyond classical exhibit-
ion concepts. „Les Aires“ is a magic walk through the Wallanlagen.
Black-and-white portraits are at the centre of this site-specific
room installation which was especially conceived for the scene of
event. Music leads the audience through the exhibition whose de-
licate, ephemeral imagery thematizes the concepts of family, an-
cestry, marriage and love. Limited access!

12
Fadunito (Spain)/German Premiere
What’s that... wheeling?

The Spanish theatre company Fadunito is always good for a surprise.
With Ceci 3.0 Fadunito are bringing an „urban surprise“ to Bremen.
Ceci 3.0 challenges our perceptions, invites us on a journey or hits us
between the eyes. What is wrong about this image? Who is missing?
Whom do we consider entitled to use a wheelchair? What if an auxili-
ary device has a life of its own? Let yourself in for it!

13
Gillende Keukenprins/German Premiere
Go for the pots and pans!

Worldwide, the „Screaming Kitchen Prince“ is the only owner of a mul-
tifunctional drum kitchen. Properly handled, this miracle machine can
simultaneously be used for cooking, playing the organ and drumming...
Flying ingredients, loud and thrilling music next to a sharp kitchen knife
as a hurrier in an intimate ode which after a twenty-seven-and-a-half-
minute storm reaches its crescendo: a pancake!

14
Inka Arlt (Germany)
Grabbing fortune upskirt!

Fortune is bribable. Throw a coin into her busty cleavage, and the en-
chanting fortune fairy will move into gear and sway her crinoline. A
lucky ticket may be pulled out of her magic skirt. It offers a glimpse of
the future. The pop-up installations hidden in the fairy’s skirt are quite
hot – and wonderfully wrapped into stories, frolics and poetry by their
charming messenger.
A touching and enchanting lucky game which also slightly mocks secret
longings and desires!

15
Joli Vyann (UK)
Dance, circus and theatre consolidated

The award-winning British performance Don’t Drink and Dance! is a
groundbreaking fusion of circus, dance and theatre – the boundaries
of which are blurred. It can no longer be recognized where the dance
ends and the circus skills begin. Central to the performance is the
story which is being garnished with breathtaking tricks. An acrobatic
feat at the highest stage, this show shines with charism and charm!

16
Joli Vyann (UK)
Hands connect

Joli Vyann’s recent show tells of the brittleness of human relation-
ships. Reaching out for each other takes central stage of this multi-
faceted performance. What if the supporting hand is withdrawn? Who
will take the consequences? The surprising and novel hand to hand
acrobatics presented by the four performers show a high degree of
ingenuity! Let yourself get carried away by dizzying heights, break-
neck speed and charming acrobats!

17
JungerZirkusBremen
Young talents of Bremen

These 25 young performers move through their programme with and
on top of boxes. They keep large spherical balls in balance, juggle with
smaller ones, and they catch people. It’s a melange of juggling, buffoon-
ery and acrobatics. The newly-established ensemble JungerZirkusBre-
men
consists of children and teenagers who come from eight separate
Bremen cultural institutions and circus schools. Different genres, dis-
tricts and performance levels meet to pursue their mutual goal of thrill-
ing the audience.

18
Kitschnette (France)/German Premiere
Dinner is served!

It’s an everyday situation. A couple is meeting for dinner in a restaur-
ant. They are talking and enjoying the evening. But slowly the atmo-
sphere turns over, their movements change, their gestures grow in
ferocity. The game between the man and the woman escalates, no
longer can they keep control. Dishes are flying across the room, the
expressions in their eyes tell their own tale, and gravity gives it the
crowning blow.

19
Studio Eclipse (Belgium)
Dancing with water

At the outset there is nothing but a platform in a lake, nothing stirs.
Then out of nowhere three people emerge from the water. They do
a roundelay: like mermaids or mermen, the three dancers play, dance
and interact – on the stage in the water, in the water itself and deep
below the water’s surface. Studio Eclipse presents modern dance on
uncommon ground and creates unforgettably beautiful imagery.

20
Superhallo (Netherlands)
An ode to the potato

No way to elude this strangely charming object. It tells of potatoes,
carries us away on a trip to the world of the „murphy“ and shows its
love for the tuber by means of a tasteful surprise. The interactive
installation is sure to raise a smile on the faces of the young and the
old. Winner of the Spoffin Off Award 2012. Limited access!

21
Lee Hayes (Netherlands)
Whisky and street art

Lee Hayes’ love of both whisky and street performing are the forces
behind this stirring show. A real whizz-kid, Hayes demonstrates all
the things you can do with whisky crates while sharing one or two
drinks with the audience in between. And the question is: What is
stronger, gravity oder glass? Lee has developed his very own organ-
ized chaos style. Near-accidents and stunning rescue operations
merge into an action-packed show. Cheers!

22
manufractur theater (Germany)
Music theater for the whole family

„Salima Sambala singt am Sambesi“ is a musical play for the whole
family whose sound and imagery carries the audience to Africa. Far-
away landscapes and wildlife come alive through theatrical perform-
ance, figures, instruments and song and it almost feels like being on
another continent. A feast for the senses for young and old alike!
Age 4 and up!

23
Murmuyo y Metrayeta (Spain)
Give way!

They conquer the streets and provocatively override the rules! In
a funny way they disturb the road traffic, deliberately cause chaos
and charmingly come into play. But what’s behind all this? Satiric-
ally the two Chilean clowns poke fun at everyday reality. And every-
thing that is not nailed down is invited to be part of the turmoil.

24
Nieuw Lef (Netherlands)/German premiere
A wondrous fresh start

You’ve been given a warm welcome and now expect to get a nasty
surprise! No, better by far: After no more than one minute you will
leave the tent as a new person and have gained one more great ex-
perience. This is pure heaven! A performance that is kitschy and
in-depth at the same time! Come in... Limited access!

25
Sid Bowfin (UK)
Vivaldi another way

Sid Bowfin will bring his new solo show to Bremen and thrill the audi-
ence with his unique mix of comedy and music. Classic works from
the last centuries reinterpreted. He becharms his audience with the
exceptional. Experience the James Bond of classical violin and dis-
cover Mozart, Vivaldi, Brahms and Rossini as if they were something
new!

26
Teatro Só (Germany)
Visual poetry

In the evening hours of life each day can encapsulate us like a large
blister. Loneliness will take hold of us. It takes a brave person to ven-
ture the step outside to find friends and joy. Young at heart yet
trapped in a body bearing traces of aging. A poetic play telling the
story of a lonesome man. As social progress accelerates, no one
has time for him. A solitary figure, the old man walks through the
city streets, waiting for a change, for something to happen, for the
time to pass. Alone. Installation theatre built on poetic imagery.

27
TENT circustheater producties (Nether-
lands)/German Premiere
Everything under control?

In LOOP, six circus performers struggle with their conscience when-
ever they are to take a basic decision. Shall they follow their family
tradition or will they have the guts to go their own way? It is about
the crucial moment when a single decision can change your life com-
pletely. Moments like this may be planned, but what if you don’t have
the situation under control? LOOP revolves around moments that give
life a direction.

28
Theater Leela (Austria)
The Show must go on!

Two clowns out of engagements, fired by their circus company, set
out into the world. The show must go on!!! The love living in the lime-
light and simply keep sharing their delight in it. They stride through
life with great joy of playing and male naivete, ready to stumble into
the pitfalls of everyday life at any time. Together they present a
pacy show mixing hot rhythms, action and acrobatics with poetic
tranquility.

29
Theater Pikante (Germany)
Let all things be done decently!

Three lawn gnomes are beginning to search for a nice quiet spot of
land in a new garden. Armed with a broom, a watering pot, a shovel
and a bucket, they simply follow their faithful wheelbarrow. Wherever
their work is needed they stop and put things in order: They sweep
and they water, they rake and cock hay, they nourish and cherish,
they sing and they chat just as is right and proper for plucky lawn
gnomes. In celebration of the 60-year-anniversary of the „Martins-
hof” this year, there is a cooperation in progress. Congratulations!

30
This Maag
Alpine insanity

This Maag is a classical actor. But his true talent lies in improvisation.
He is currently touring Germany, Austria and Switzerland and Sweden
with his new solo programme„Fondue für alle!” With EU-approved Swiss
humour he will host the LA STRADA gala for one evening this year, fully
covering the announcement and the programme because he won’t
announce the precious programme in the open
.
An out-of-the-ordinary host giving the order of the day.
